Inklight Printers Limited (trading as “Printers KE”) is the data controller responsible for the personal information collected through printers.ke. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights as a data subject under the Data Protection Act, 2019 of Kenya (the “DPA”).
By using this website, placing an order, or otherwise communicating with us, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who We Are
Data Controller: Inklight Printers Limited (trading as Printers KE)
Address: 1st Floor, Nation Centre, Kimathi Street, Nairobi, Kenya
Email: jambo@printers.ke
Phone: +254 729 000 222
2. Personal Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect the following categories of personal information:
• Identity and contact details — your name, email address, phone number, billing address, and delivery address.
• Order and transaction information — the products you view, add to cart, purchase, return, or exchange, and the date and amount of each transaction.
• Payment information — we do not store full payment card details. Card payments are processed directly by our payment service providers; we receive only confirmation that a payment has succeeded or failed, along with the last four digits of the card and the cardholder name.
• Account information — if you create an account, your username, encrypted password, saved addresses, and order history.
• Communications — the content of messages you send us via our contact form, email, WhatsApp, or phone.
• Technical and usage information — your IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, time spent on the site, and referral source. This information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
3. How We Collect Your Information
We collect personal information from the following sources:
• Directly from you — when you place an order, create an account, contact us, or subscribe to our marketing list.
• Automatically — from your device as you use our website, through cookies, log files, and analytics tools.
• From service providers — such as our payment processors, courier partners, and analytics providers, who supply information necessary to fulfil orders or improve our services.
4. Why We Collect It (Lawful Basis for Processing)
Under Section 30 of the DPA, we process your personal information only where we have a lawful basis to do so. The lawful bases we rely on are:
• Performance of a contract — to process your order, arrange delivery, handle returns, and provide customer support.
• Consent — to send you marketing emails or SMS messages, where you have opted in. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interest — to detect and prevent fraud, secure our website, and improve our products and services.
• Legal obligation — to keep tax and accounting records, respond to lawful requests from regulators, and comply with the DPA, the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, and other applicable laws.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
• Process and fulfil your orders, including arranging delivery and handling returns or exchanges.
• Provide customer support, respond to your questions, and resolve complaints.
• Manage your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
• Send order confirmations, dispatch notifications, and other transactional messages.
• Send marketing communications (only where you have consented), including promotions, product launches, and newsletters.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
• Improve our website, products, and services through analytics and customer feedback.
• Comply with legal, tax, and regulatory obligations.
6. Who We Share Your Information With
We share your personal information only with parties who need it to deliver our services to you, and only to the extent necessary. These include:
• Shopify — our e-commerce platform provider, which hosts the website and processes order data on our behalf.
• Payment processors — to authorise and settle card and mobile money transactions.
• Courier and logistics partners (including Fargo Courier, G4S, Sendy Logistics, and authorised local riders) — to deliver your orders. We share only the information needed for delivery (name, address, phone number, and order contents).
• Email and SMS service providers — to send transactional and (with your consent) marketing communications.
• Analytics providers — to help us understand how the website is used.
• Professional advisers — such as auditors, accountants, and legal counsel, where necessary.
• Government authorities — where we are legally required to disclose information, such as in response to a court order or a lawful request from the Kenya Revenue Authority or other regulator.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
7. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers — including Shopify and certain analytics, email, and payment providers — are based outside Kenya, primarily in the United States, Canada, and the European Union. When we transfer your personal information outside Kenya, we do so in line with Section 48 of the DPA and rely on one or more of the following safeguards:
• The receiving country has been determined to provide an adequate level of data protection.
• The transfer is governed by appropriate contractual safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
• The transfer is necessary to perform our contract with you (for example, to fulfil an order).
• You have given explicit consent to the transfer.
8. How Long We Keep Your Information
We retain personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including legal, tax, and accounting requirements. Our standard retention periods are:
• Order and transaction records — 7 years from the date of the transaction (to comply with the Tax Procedures Act and Companies Act record-keeping requirements).
• Account information — for as long as your account remains active, plus 2 years after closure.
• Marketing preferences — until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe.
• Customer support communications — 3 years from the date of the last interaction.
• Website analytics data — 26 months.
After the applicable retention period expires, we securely delete or anonymise your personal information.
9. How We Protect Your Information
We apply technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal information, including:
• HTTPS/TLS encryption across the entire website and checkout.
• Restricted internal access on a need-to-know basis.
• Use of reputable third-party processors with their own security certifications (Shopify, Cloudflare, and licensed payment providers).
• Regular review of our security practices.
No system is perfectly secure. While we work hard to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security and recommend that you choose a strong, unique password for your account and avoid sharing it with anyone.
10. Your Rights Under the Data Protection Act
Under Section 26 of the DPA, you have the following rights in relation to your personal information:
• Right to be informed about how your data is being used.
• Right of access — to obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — to request deletion of your personal information, where the law allows.
• Right to object to processing — including direct marketing.
• Right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
• Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
• Right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in the “Contact Us” section below. We will respond within the timelines set out in the DPA. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request.
11. Cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your preferences, analyse traffic, and (where you have consented) deliver personalised marketing. Categories of cookies we use:
• Strictly necessary cookies — required for the site to function (e.g. cart, checkout, login). These cannot be disabled.
• Performance and analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

12. Children’s Privacy
